Sunset photos are groan worthy to some people, it seems many people feel that sunsets are the first stop for many aspiring photographers. The thing is, that for many people sunset represents a truly beautiful time of colour and warmth. I love the golden hour although I rarely get to photograph during it as much as I would like. If I do manage to get out with my camera during this time of amazing colours I always try to visualise where I am going to be as the sun sets to try and plan my remaining shots in the evening light. I always try to find a subject that will make a good focal point of an image, where the sunset will compliment the scene. More importantly, I try to pick a scene that I like to look at. Yes it is an awesome feeling when other people like one of my photos, but it is most valuable when you love the image too.
This photo is taken from Instow overlooking Appledore. I like the way the sun was dropping behind the headland so that it provided colour to the scene without dominating it too much and blowing out the detail. I processed it to try to keep the feel of the near sillouhette but show details in the dark regions. Evenings like this where the water is calm rarely leave me dissapointed. I hope you like it as much as I do.
