My photography has seen me travelling more and more to Exmoor to try and get better landscape photos. Seeing photos by people such as Stephen Spraggon has given me plenty of inspiration, Steve’s photo was in the last issue of Outdoor Photography magazine. I was on my way to photograph and old engine house on the east of Exmoor but the light was fading quite fast so I decided to head for Winsford hill as that was where Steve’s photo was taken. It turned out it was the same hill I had stopped at on a few occasions previously without knowing it by name. The weather was closing in so I found a lay-by and parked up and broke out my flask of coffee while I waited for golden hour to kick in, hoping for quite a dramatic sky as the sun set. Sadly the cloud had became a bit too dense too early so it masked the sun and its colours as the light faded so this is about the best photo I managed. It was very windy so some heather is blurred as it was moving in the wind but I think it adds to the image showing it as quite a baron and hostile scene. I tried to compose the shot with the grass in the foreground leading to the tree to guide the eye. I’d like to get a better shot next time but for now I’m quite happy.

I think this shot is beautiful – it makes me miss England, because the colours look sooo english (you see my point?)
I really like the colour composition! Great work! Thanks for sharing!
